US-Asia Economic Engagement: Policy, Competition, and the Stakes for US Business

The US-China Business Council, in partnership with the US-ASEAN Business Council, US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, and Japan Society, will jointly host an afternoon briefing on Capitol Hill for congressional staff and USCBC and program partner members and invited guests on the evolving business and economic policy landscape across Asia. Following President Xi Jinping's anticipated September visit to the United States, the discussion will examine key issues shaping American business interests in the region, including rare earths and critical minerals, tariffs, supply chain shifts, and export controls. A panel of speakers will assess how policies in the United States, China, India, Japan, and Southeast Asia are affecting American companies; what these developments mean for US competitiveness and economic security; and what congressional leaders should watch as they weigh economic engagement across Asia. The discussion will take place against a broader backdrop of consequential 2026 developments, including the US congressional midterm elections, the United States’ G20 presidency, and China’s APEC host year, all of which will shape the policy environment for US economic engagement across Asia. Confirmed speakers include Sean Stein, President, US-China Business Council; Amb. Brian McFeeters, President & CEO, US-ASEAN Business Council; Gaurav Verma, COO, US-India Strategic Partnership Forum; and Katherine Monahan, President & CEO, Japan Society. A member of Congress has been invited to deliver keynote remarks.
